The Best Dog Parks & Beaches in Spokane

Spokane rebuilt much of its off-leash scene in 2024, so the fenced dog parks here are mostly new or renovated. The biggest is High Bridge (9.3 acres) near downtown, and the suburbs add Spokane Valley’s and the county’s parks out toward the Idaho line. One thing to know: despite the riverside settings at High Bridge and the Gateway park, there’s no official in-park dog swimming — the fenced off-leash areas don’t include water access, so the “High Bridge dog swim” you’ll see online isn’t a sanctioned thing. Plan for hot, dry summers (the dog fountains are shut off in winter) and cold, snowy winters. Here are the verified spots, with the rules that apply, each checked against the official source.

Spokane dog parks & beaches: FAQ

Where can dogs go off-leash in Spokane?
In fenced city and county dog parks, most new or renovated in 2024. The City of Spokane runs High Bridge (the largest at 9.3 acres), the new South Hill park, and a tiny downtown pocket park on Riverside. Spokane Valley has the Valley Mission dog park (with a dog wash), and Spokane County runs the Patricia Simonet Laughing Dog Park at Gateway Regional Park near the Idaho line.
Can my dog swim in the Spokane River at a dog park?
No — not officially. High Bridge and the Gateway park both sit right by the Spokane River, but the fenced off-leash areas don’t include water access, and the City lists no in-park swimming. The popular idea of a “High Bridge dog swim” isn’t a sanctioned, designated spot. Bring drinking water instead — and note the dog fountains are shut off in winter.
Are Spokane dog parks open in winter?
Yes — the City parks run 5 AM–11 PM year-round, and the county/Valley parks are dawn-to-dusk or seasonal (Valley Mission closes at 7 PM in winter). But plan for real Inland Northwest winter: snow and ice on the surfacing, and the dog drinking fountains turned off in the cold months. Summers are hot and dry, so carry water then too.
Which Spokane dog park is the biggest?
High Bridge Dog Park (SpokAnimal’s) at 9.3 acres is by far the largest, with separate large- and small-dog areas and flat-and-hilly, open-and-treed terrain minutes from downtown. The Gateway/Patricia Simonet park (~3 acres) and Valley Mission are the next-roomiest fenced options.
Where can my dog be off-leash right now?
Open the live map — each spot shows whether off-leash is allowed at the current date and time, including Valley Mission’s seasonal hours.
Can I add a spot?
Yes — open the live map, drop a pin, snap a photo, and it’s on the map for every dog owner.
