The Best Dog Parks & Beaches in Austin

Austin is a water-dog town: many of its off-leash areas trace a creek or the shore of Lady Bird Lake, so dogs can swim as well as run. And unlike a lot of cities, Austin off-leash areas are leash-free whenever the park is open (5 AM–10 PM) — no posted-hours puzzle. The catch is water safety: Lady Bird Lake can carry toxic blue-green algae the city warns can kill dogs, and the creeks flash-flood. Here are the best off-leash areas in town, with the rules — and water cautions — that actually apply, each verified against the official source.
