The Best Dog Parks & Beaches in San Jose

Silicon Valley does dog parks by the neighborhood: San José and its neighbors run a deep bench of fully fenced off-leash parks, most split into separate large- and small-dog yards, and the mild Bay Area climate keeps them usable all year. Don’t come for swimming — none of these have dog water access (even Hellyer, which sits right by Coyote Creek, is a dry fenced run). A couple of quirks to know: Hellyer charges a county-park entrance fee, Santa Clara’s Gamma park opens late on Wednesdays, and dogs are banned inside Mountain View’s Shoreline Park except at its dedicated dog park. Here are the best off-leash parks in the South Bay, each verified against the official source.

San Jose dog parks & beaches: FAQ

Where can dogs go off-leash in San Jose?
The South Bay has a deep set of fully fenced off-leash dog parks. In San José: Hellyer (county park), Saratoga Creek, Roy M. Butcher (Cambrian), Fontana (Almaden), Miyuki (the city’s first), Delmas, Ryland and Watson. Nearby: Las Palmas in Sunnyvale, Raymond G. Gamma (Reed Street) in Santa Clara, and Shoreline Dog Park in Mountain View. Most split large and small dogs into separate yards.
Can my dog swim at a San Jose dog park?
No — none of the South Bay off-leash parks have dog-swim water. Hellyer sits beside Coyote Creek and Las Palmas has a scenic pond, but the off-leash enclosures are dry fenced runs and dogs don’t have water access. Bring water; several parks (Miyuki, Ryland, Watson, Hellyer) don’t even have a fountain.
Do any South Bay dog parks have fees or unusual hours?
Hellyer is inside a Santa Clara County park that charges a vehicle entrance fee (the dog area itself is free). Santa Clara’s Gamma/Reed Street park opens late at 3 PM on Wednesdays for maintenance. Sunnyvale’s Las Palmas runs 6 AM–9 PM, and most San José parks are sunrise to roughly an hour after sunset.
Can I take my dog into Shoreline Park in Mountain View?
No — dogs are not allowed inside Shoreline Park. The off-leash option is the dedicated Shoreline Dog Park at the corner of Shoreline Blvd and North Road, just outside the park entrance, with separate small- and large-dog areas and shade.
Where can my dog be off-leash right now?
Open the live map — each spot shows whether off-leash is allowed at the current date and time.
Can I add a spot?
Yes — open the live map, drop a pin, snap a photo, and it’s on the map for every dog owner.
