Omaha’s off-leash scene is a mix of fenced neighborhood runs and a couple of genuine swim spots. The fenced parks — Hefflinger (the original and largest), the new turf-and-splash-pad Dewey in midtown, and tree-shaded Hanscom — cover the city, while the suburbs add Papillion’s Walnut Creek, Bellevue’s Jewell Park, and, across the river in Iowa, Council Bluffs’ Valley View. If your dog wants to actually swim, two spots deliver: Standing Bear Lake’s designated dog cove and Walnut Creek’s pond. Plan for hot, humid summers — several parks shut their water off outside the warm months — and cold, snowy winters with muddy thaws. Here are the verified spots, each rule checked against the official source.

Get featured →Northwest Omaha
A 135-acre lake park with a designated cove where dogs may swim and run off-leash — the metro's go-to spot for a real lake dip. The rest of the park's perimeter trails are leash-only.
Northwest Omaha (112th & Maple) · 11202 Maple St, Omaha, NE 68164
Omaha's first and largest official off-leash dog park — a fully fenced 7.5-acre run on the south side of 112th and Maple, with a separate small-dog section. Wide-open fields are great for zooming, but there's little shade.
Midtown (near Midtown Crossing) · 550 Turner Blvd, Omaha, NE 68105
Omaha's newest midtown dog park, fully fenced with self-cleaning synthetic turf, an agility course, shaded canopies, and a warm-weather splash pad. Divided into a small-dog area and an all-sizes area.
Hanscom Park (32nd & Woolworth) · 3201 Woolworth Ave, Omaha, NE 68105
A fenced off-leash park inside historic Hanscom Park, split into three runs (two large-dog, one small-dog) on a tree-shaded hillside. The mature trees give better summer shade than most Omaha dog parks.
Walnut Creek Recreation Area (96th & Hwy 370)
Sarpy County's standout: a 3+ acre leash-free area with two fully fenced runs (large and small) plus a native section fenced on three sides with open pond water on the fourth, so dogs can wade and swim. The surrounding 450-acre rec area is leash-only.
Jewell Park · 600 Combs Rd, Bellevue, NE 68005
Bellevue's official fully fenced dog park, tucked into the woods at Jewell Park with separate small- and large-dog sides and a double-gated entry. The tree cover makes it one of the shadier options in the metro.
Valley View Park · 1300 Franklin Ave, Council Bluffs, IA 51503
Council Bluffs' first true fenced dog park (opened Nov 2024), across the river in Iowa, with secure double-gated entries and separate large- and small-dog areas. Sections include 'logstacle' play structures, water stations, benches, and shade.
