Off-leash beach · Lakeshore / Outer Sunset · Fort Funston, Skyline Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94132
Fort Funston
The Bay Area's most famous off-leash destination: a vast clifftop expanse of dunes and sandstone bluffs above a wide ocean beach, beloved by hang gliders and dozens of dogs at a time. Dogs run off-leash under voice control across nearly the whole site.
Free lot off Fort Funston Rd (fills on warm weekends).
Good to know
Off-leash everywhere EXCEPT the 12-acre habitat closure in northwest Fort Funston — stay out of the fenced/signed Bank Swallow Protection Area.
Dogs must be under voice and sight control and recall immediately; unmanaged dogs are prohibited (1979 GGNRA Pet Policy).
200-ft bluffs and dangerous surf — NPS warns: if your dog gets stuck on the bluffs, do not climb after it.
