Parley's Historic Nature Park (Tanner Dog Park)
SLC's signature off-leash spot and one of the nation's largest off-leash dog areas: a mile-plus natural canyon corridor along Parley's Creek where dogs hike and swim. Locally called Tanner Park — an open natural area, not a fenced enclosure.
Let dogs in the water ONLY at designated creek-access points — several dogs have been swept into culverts during high spring runoff; the creek is dangerous when swollen.
Parley's Creek is a state-listed impaired water (E. coli and cadmium history) — fine for a quick splash at designated points, but not ideal for drinking or sensitive dogs.
Dogs are prohibited on the South Loop Trail (protected land) and the BMX park; the city can temporarily suspend off-leash when an elk herd winters here — obey posted signage.
