Minnehaha Off-Leash Dog Park
Minneapolis's signature off-leash area — over 6 acres of riverbank woods in Minnehaha Regional Park with a genuine dog beach on the Mississippi where dogs splash and swim. The city's largest off-leash park.
Minnehaha Park lots (paid in season) off Minnehaha Park Dr.
Good to know
CLOSURE PENDING: the Park Board voted June 17, 2026 to decommission this off-leash park (it sits on land sacred to the Dakota near Coldwater Spring); dogs must be leashed here by Dec 31, 2026 — verify status before you go.
Paid Minneapolis Park Board permit required: $38/yr first dog (resident), $66/yr (non-resident), or $5/day; a current city pet license and rabies vaccination are also required.
Open year-round; the river dog beach freezes over in deep winter, so swimming is a warm-season activity.
