Runyon Canyon Park
160 acres of open, dusty hillside at the east end of the Santa Monica Mountains, famous for its steep trails, skyline views and celebrity sightings. Dogs run off-leash in the designated areas — a magnet for the LA dog crowd.
Free street parking around the Fuller Ave and Vista St gates (limited; fills fast on weekends).
Good to know
Off-leash in DESIGNATED AREAS ONLY (LA Parks) — dogs must be leashed in the parking area and the leashed-only entrance zones; it is zone-restricted, not time-restricted.
No water anywhere in the park and a standing Heat Advisory — carry water for you and your dog; trails are steep, exposed and dusty.
Open hillside (unfenced) bordering urban wilderness — stay on the designated trails for safety and habitat protection.
